Groton's members are certified firefighters and EMTs. The town also runs the Groton/Ryegate FAST Squad for medical calls, and the department joins Ryegate and Wells River for an annual prevention program at Blue Mountain Union School.
"40 plus" calls. The July flood washes out two dry hydrants, at Cold Water Brook and behind Clark's Landing. The fire station gets a new roof, extended over the east entry and the generator. Eight members certify as traffic control flaggers, and others train in CPR and ice rescue.

Vermont requires a Permit to Kindle Fire from the town’s Forest Fire Warden for anything larger than a campfire — except where snow covers the ground at the burn site, or the fire is at least 200 feet from anything that will carry flame.
