Lunenburg's volunteers serve the town and the village of Gilman. The Gilman Lunenburg Rescue Squad, also volunteer, answers medical calls, and the town budgets separately for ambulance coverage from Lancaster.
Grants bring $26,500 to the fire department. The town gives the department $20,000 for its running costs, of which $8,591 goes on gear and equipment and $7,996 on truck repairs. Energy-efficiency work at the Gilman fire station, funded by a $397,321 state grant to the town, continues.

Vermont requires a Permit to Kindle Fire from the town’s Forest Fire Warden for anything larger than a campfire — except where snow covers the ground at the burn site, or the fire is at least 200 feet from anything that will carry flame.
