New Haven's volunteers answer crashes, alarms, grass and structure fires and medical calls, and help the town crew. Pancake breakfasts, chicken barbecues and Field Days fund much of the department.

Alan Mayer steps down as chief after 16 years. The town reaches a deal with Velco for land and a septic site for a new station.
2025
July's barbecue sells about 750 half-chickens in an hour and a half, and Field Days bring the department just over $23,000. Alan Mayer is named Senior Firefighter of the Year by the Vermont State Firefighters Association, and Jerad Gorton Maintenance Technician of the Year. Architects work on the new station's plans.

Burning
Vermont requires a Permit to Kindle Fire from the town’s Forest Fire Warden for anything larger than a campfire — except where snow covers the ground at the burn site, or the fire is at least 200 feet from anything that will carry flame. Wardens can suspend burning outright when fire danger is high. Who to ask locally is recorded department by department; where it is blank below, the fire department itself is the place to start.
