The town's fire department works from three stations. Newbury Village and Wells River share coverage of the town, and all of Newbury's structure fires draw help from surrounding departments. Many of Wells River's crashes are on I-91.

The 90-year-old Newbury Village station at 60 Chapel Street is demolished in May; the trucks wait in a farm barn, and the new three-bay station, with a community space for meetings and voting, is approved for occupancy on 22 October. The 79 calls are Wells River's.

Wells River meets the first Monday at 7 pm and trains the third Monday at 6 pm
Vermont requires a Permit to Kindle Fire from the town’s Forest Fire Warden for anything larger than a campfire — except where snow covers the ground at the burn site, or the fire is at least 200 feet from anything that will carry flame.
