Newport's department protects the city and part of Coventry. It meets on Tuesday evenings, and all training and gear are paid for.
2024
Kevin Lacoss, a member since 2002, is appointed chief, and a full-time administrative firefighter is hired. Coventry shrinks the area Newport covers, though its share of capital costs stays the same. New Holmatro rescue tools free a trapped driver on Pine Hill Road within days of arriving. Longtime member Lucius "Butch" Provencher dies after more than 40 years.
2025
A new engine, ordered in 2023, is due in September.

Burning
Vermont requires a Permit to Kindle Fire from the town’s Forest Fire Warden for anything larger than a campfire — except where snow covers the ground at the burn site, or the fire is at least 200 feet from anything that will carry flame.
