Troy's volunteers answer fires, crashes, medical assists, hazardous conditions and water rescues. The village of North Troy has its own fire department, with its own chief, which the town also helps fund.
The department sells its 105-foot ladder truck to another Vermont department and buys a used 1999 E-One 75-foot Cyclone: shorter, more manoeuvrable, and able to work as an engine with its 500-gallon tank and 1,500 gpm pump.

Vermont requires a Permit to Kindle Fire from the town’s Forest Fire Warden for anything larger than a campfire — except where snow covers the ground at the burn site, or the fire is at least 200 feet from anything that will carry flame.
